The core capture terms
A 360° photo, or panorama, is a single photograph covering a full sphere around one fixed point, viewers drag to look in any direction. A virtual tour links multiple 360° photos together with clickable hotspots so a viewer can move between rooms, the umbrella term for the full experience. Nadir and zenith are the very bottom and top points of a 360° panorama, directly below and above the camera, often covered with a logo badge since a tripod would otherwise be visible there.
Navigation and interaction terms
A hotspot is a clickable point placed on a panorama that moves the viewer to another scene, opens information, or links elsewhere, the mechanism that turns separate photos into a connected tour. A dollhouse view is a 3D, top-down or angled overview of an entire property, showing how all the captured rooms fit together spatially, useful for understanding a multi-room layout at a glance. A floor plan is a 2D, or interactive, map of the property, often paired with clickable markers that jump straight to that room's panorama in the tour.
Terms that get used loosely
VR tour is often used interchangeably with virtual tour, which is mostly fine since both describe the same browser-based, drag-to-look experience. Strictly, VR implies a headset-based experience, but in property marketing the term almost always just means an interactive 360° tour viewable on any device, no headset required. Digital twin is sometimes used loosely to mean simply a nice virtual tour, but properly refers to a persistent, data-linked digital replica of a space, dimensions, materials, equipment records, used for ongoing documentation rather than one-time marketing. Delivery and technical terms
An embed code is a snippet added to a website that displays the tour directly on that page, rather than linking away to a separate site. HDR, or High Dynamic Range, is a technique blending multiple exposures of the same shot so both bright windows and darker interior areas are correctly exposed in one final image. Staging, or virtual staging, means physically arranging furniture before a shoot, or digitally adding furniture to photos afterward, to help a room read as lived-in rather than empty.
