What Is Google Street View for Business (and Why It Matters)?
A plain-English guide to interior Street View imagery: what it is, how it differs from the mapping-car photos, and how it gets onto your Google listing.

TL;DR
- 'Street View' most people picture is Google's mapping-car exterior imagery, interior Street View is a separate, commissioned 360° shoot published to your own Business Profile.
- It's shot by an authorised local photographer, then submitted through Google's approved publishing workflow, not something you can upload yourself as a regular photo.
- Once live, it appears directly inside Google Search and Maps as an explorable 360° interior, ahead of any click-through to your website.
- It's one contributing local-SEO signal, not a silver bullet, but it's a rich-media advantage most nearby competitor listings still lack.
Street View interior vs the car that drives your street
The imagery most people associate with Street View is captured by Google's own mapping cars and only ever shows exteriors, and not every road has been driven or updated recently. Interior Street View is a completely different, separately commissioned product: a business hires an authorised local photographer to shoot the inside of their premises in 360°, which then gets published to that business's own Google Business Profile. It's the reason some restaurants and shops show an explorable interior in Google Maps while the one next door only shows a pin.
How the imagery actually gets published
The shoot itself uses professional 360° equipment, not a phone camera, and follows Google's photography guidelines for Street View so the imagery qualifies for publishing. After the shoot, the panoramas are submitted through Google's approved publishing process. Google's own review and processing takes a few days, after which the interior appears live on the business's profile, viewable directly in Search and Maps without the customer needing to leave Google at all.
What you need before booking a shoot
An active, verified Google Business Profile is the main prerequisite, the imagery has to attach to a real, claimed listing. If you're not sure whether your profile is verified, that's worth checking first; a photographer offering this service should be able to walk you through claiming or verifying it if you haven't already.
Why it's worth doing even though it's not a ranking guarantee
Interior Street View doesn't single-handedly move you up Google's local rankings, that depends on a mix of accurate business details, category selection, review volume and other signals. What it reliably does is make your listing more engaging and trustworthy the moment someone finds you, which improves click-through and the odds they choose you over a competitor showing only a logo. Combined with the rest of a solid local SEO approach, it's a rich-media edge most Mumbai competitors in most categories still don't have.
